Costa Rica by ARA Tours
Costa Rica
Costa Rica, the “Switzerland of Central America”, impresses with a stable democracy, exemplary nature conservation and outstanding biodiversity. Although barely larger than Switzerland, the country brings together dense rainforests, cloud forests in the Cordillera mountain ranges, active volcanoes such as Arenal, waterfalls, coffee plantations and two long coastlines along the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
More than a quarter of the country is protected as national parks or reserves. These habitats are home to tapirs, howler monkeys, sloths, jaguars and over 900 bird species – including the dazzling resplendent quetzal in the cloud forests of Monteverde. Costa Rica has had no army since 1948 and consistently invests in education and environmental protection; nearly 100% of its electricity comes from renewable sources.
From the dream beaches of the Nicoya Peninsula to the turtle nesting beaches of Tortuguero on the Caribbean coast, Costa Rica offers remarkable diversity in a small area. “Pura Vida” – pure life – is more than a slogan here: it reflects the relaxed, nature-loving lifestyle of the Ticos, who warmly welcome visitors.
